- Brief History of Jeongeup

Although no Old Stone Age relics were found, New Stone Age relics might be found. Plain earthenware relics and dolmen graves are concentrated in the Gochan and Buan areas, and spread to the inland region through to the Dongjin and Mangyeong Rivers. These relics suggest that an agricultural society had formed in this region as early as the Bronze Age.

During the Samhan period, Goriguk and Chosandobiriguk were among the 54 states located in this region.
- During the samguk (three kingdoms) period, there were Jeongchon-hyeon (which later became Jeongeup-hyeon), Daesisan-gun (Taein-hyeon), and Gosaburi-gun (Gobu-gun). In 757 (the 16th year of King Gyeongdeok's rule), after Silla's unification of the three kingdoms, the region finally became part of Taesan-gun, and was given its present name of Jeongeup.
- It was a significant political and military center where, during the Baekje period, Jungbangosaseong, (one of the five bangseongs), was located. The ruins of the citadel remain to this day.
